A Few Other Vulcan Tricks

Apart from telepathic abilities, a great strength, acute hearing, a convenient inner eyelid to prevent the worse and sheer sexiness, Vulcans have a few tricks up their sleeves: the healing trance, a self-induced hypnosis, the infamous nerve pinch, the ta'al and of course the IDIC! Should I mention pain control?

The ta'al or Vulcan greeting, and the IDIC sign, which means Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. It is a Vulcan philosophy advocating tolerance.

The IDIC pin.

The IDIC and the ta'al.

Sarek, the Vulcan Ambassador.

The Vulcan nerve-pinch,very useful to get rid of someone... in a pinch. This is just one example among many. Try A Piece of the Action, for instance, where Bones compliments Spock (!) on his technique!

The colonist tried to attack Spock...

...with a giant key!

Even under the influence of the evil pancakes from outer space, Spock RulZ!

The Healing Trance is a way for Vulcans to concentrate very hard on an injury to heal it faster. We see Spock using it in A Private Little War and heal himself from a nearly fatal shotwound.

Spock is shot in the back.

He falls, but Kirk helps him up...

...to beam him back to the ship.

The medics start working on him right in the transporter room!

Dr M'Benga tells Spock someone will be here when he wakes up from the trance.

Later, Spock rasps at Nurse Chapel to slap him.

She gives him a slight tap on the cheek.

Scotty arrives and thinks she's nuts!

M'Benga rushes in and hauls Spock up.

M'Benga slaps him like a man, man!

He's trained on Vulcan, and knows what do to.

Spock stops M'Benga's hand in mid-air.

Spock has regained full consciousness.

Spock is now much better...

....and goes back to the job at hand!

By Any Other Name : self-induced hypnosis (see the meld here)

Jim asks Spock to enter a trance so he'll look ill.

Kirk seems quite knowledgeable about that, by the way.

Spock seems to meld with himself...

...raises up his head...

...up again...

...and topples sidewards!

Kirk & Bones grab him...

...but he's already out!

Poor Spock, can't enjoy this big big hug.

They sit him on a convenient rock.

Bones plays at the doctor...

...it works! his heart is hardly beating!
